Sugar Free / Low Sugar Chocolate FAQs

Do the other bars, than the almond bar, contain nuts?

No, he Chocolate Blocks do not contain any nut ingredients, however they are produced on a manufacturing line that is also used to produce other bars that do contain peanuts and other nuts. Despite all the precautions that are taken during manufacture to prevent cross contamination of Chocolate from other products (ie the line is thoroughly washed after nut containing bars are produced) we cannot guarantee that there is not a minute trace of nut residue somewhere in the production line that may contaminate a Chocolate Block. That is why we include the warning on all Chocolate Block wrappers, “MADE ON THE SAME EQUIPMENT AS PRODUCTS CONTAINING PEANUTS AND OTHER NUTS” for those consumers that are allergic to nuts.

Are the Blocks high in fat?

Our Sugar Free and Low Sugar Chocolates contain natural fat that is present in cocoa beans. This fat is called “cocoa butter”. Most chocolates contain 30-40% fat which is predominantly cocoa butter and in milk chocolate also some butter fat.

Do the bars contain artificial sweeteners?

Yes, because all added sugar is removed from our chocolates, we need to use a small quantity (around 0.03%) of sucralose to enhance the sweetness. Sucralose is made from sucrose (ie common sugar) which has been modified in a process that alters its chemical structure such that its sweetness is highly enhanced but it is not digested by the human body. Sucralose is a safe and approved food sweetening agent.

What is the difference between the dark, sugar free, chocolate and milk, low sugar, chocolate?

Sugar Free Dark Chocolate is, by definition from a food regulations perspective, ‘sugar free’ because it contains less than 0.2% sugars per 100g. Our Low Sugar Milk Chocolate has absolutely no sugar added. However, because milk chocolate requires some milk to be added, and because milk naturally contains its own unique sugar called lactose, this contributes about 4-5% sugars overall (as the natural milk sugar, lactose) to the final chocolate. Therefore, from a food regulations perspective, we cannot call our Milk Chocolate “Sugar Free” but for all intents and purposes, it is as ‘sugar free’ as is possible for a milk based chocolate. In fact, we could say it is “95% SUGAR FREE”.

Has there been added sugar to the milk chocolate blocks?

Why are the bars tooth friendly?

There are 2 reasons why our Sugar Free/Low Sugar chocolate bars are tooth friendly;

  1. Because we eliminate sugar from the chocolate, this substantially decreases the risk of tooth decay because it removes a major fermentable carbohydrate source, that the bacteria in the mouth, which are the prime cause of tooth decay, would otherwise use to produce the acidic conditions responsible for tooth decay.
  2. It is believed that eating chocolate before other foods actually reduces the risk of tooth decay, because the fat in the chocolate provides a form of protection against the acid produced by tooth decay bacteria present in the mouth.

Are the chocolates gluten free?

Yes, there are no wheat or gluten containing ingredients in our Sugar Free/Low Sugar Chocolates.
